Donenu Korean BBQ, SEOUL

Both me and my mom stumbled upon this alley that was filled with rows and rows of korean bbq restaurants and we after some scouting decided that this looked the most promising as it was filled with locals. On their menu they had 2 house specialty;  bulgogi and the smoked samgyupsal so we ordered both.

The bulgogi was perfectly marinated and it was really nice and tender with the right amount of sweetness (i usually don't fancy sweet meat but this is really superb) and then there was the smoked samgyupsal (pork belly) which has totally heightened my standards of a good samgyupsal. The pork belly is first smoked then cut into thick slices before they are served which gives them an added depth of flavor. Garnishes had perfectly well balanced flavors with the right acidity to bring out the flavour of the meat without overpowering them and are free flow.

But mind you that the staff does not speak english and this is a more or less self service restaurant, so i would suggest you take a look at what the locals around you are doing.

This is interesting, this is a DOSIRAK (korean style rice box), what you do is to shake them up before digging in. I really love it, it was very refreshing with the slight acidity from the pickled vegetables and the roe of the fish popping with every bite, sesame seed sprinkles with seaweed and the sunny side up
