Tucked away among the line up of eateries in Kota Damansara lies an unseemingly beautiful gem - Erawan.
Erawan has been lauded with many awards over the years and most recently placing second on the Miele guide's list of top restaurants in Malaysia and is the 'go to' place for amazing thai food among foodies, bloggers and socialites. Chef Korn has also published a cookbook titled Thai @ Home and has been a regularly featured guest on many different magazines.
I was given the opportunity to make arrangements for our restaurant's next bi-annual staff party and I knew it had to be Erawan. I mean, what's better than to go try out one of the best restaurants without having to burn a hole in my own pocket?
To best honor chef korn, I requested that he plan and arrange our menu. Which is the best strategy when dining at an established restaurant as Erawan, you will never be disappointed.

Erawan yee sang - one of the best that i've had. Very fresh and bright flavours. |

List of ingredients found in the yee sang |
|
Miang Kham |
Miang Kham - fun hands on, you take a betel leaf, hold it in the palm of your left hand, pinch (the service crew insisted) any other ingredient (aside from the chili and shrimp paste, you get spoons for that) you want on it, roll it up and try to fit it in your mouth in one go. What you get is an explosion of flavors and texture - The betel leaf has a strong peppery taste that is very refreshing, the dried shrimp and shrimp paste lends sweet and savoriness , then the spiciness from the bird eye chili kicks in and the earthy flavor of properly toasted ground nuts. The trick here is to get the ratio of the condiments right.

Rose apple + dried shrimp + roasted nuts - sweet juicy rose apples imported from taiwan + sweet and savory dried shrimp paste |
